Just an insight into what we do in the gallery prior to the exhibition opening. This carpentry doesn't happen everyday, though we are somehow capable we'd say, and despite the sluggish weather today, we somehow managed to stretch artworks from Myanmar in the end.

The artworks that came in yesterday, is from Burmese artist. This will be his first appearance in our gallery.
Along with Burmese art we've got yesterday, we also got paintings from a Japanese artist today;  mostly of portraiture paintings.

The more we get of artworks, the more exciting we are for the exhibition to open.  I think it is going to be literally a colorful exhibition, in terms of diversity of artworks and as well as the mish mash of different cultures...!

We would like to give you another peep into our upcoming Shocase 2010 this Friday.

Nguyen Hung Trinh is from Vietnam and here's some info extract about him from  http://my.opera.com/Nixking/blog/show.dml/3032633

Nguyen Hung Trinh has loved painting since he was young. He has spent a long time trying to create something specific, a new way to paint and has finally achieved it by painting using one finger and a palette knife . His style is combination of three techniques: abstract, surrealist and expressionist.

"My work, first of all, is about a journey inward.
I don’t like to portray reality. What I prefer to do, by my own artworks, is to look for something I met in a dream, something I found accidentally at the corner of my heart. I try to paint, intuitively, a lyrical feeling or a metaphysical thought.
For me, to paint is an attempt to catch up with something that is not only fragile but also unknown. I discover and create my own soul at the same time. I recognize my innermost being through the colors and the figures on the canvas. Imitating the best known phrase by Descartes, I would like to say: I paint, therefore, I am.
The journey inward, therefore, is also a journey outward."

The photograph impressions of the fair is still on the way.
We'll share a bit of catalogue, and what was the go in Daegu art fair.

So far, we've heared from our D'peak team who travelled to Daegu that;

- Daegu, is a pretty quiet place, country side, and art is not really established there, yet.

- Hence people there are not very familiar with arts. Apparently people thought paintings were photographs and some touched the paintings.  Mostly taking photos with peace sign; sounds like an attraction at theme park.

-As for the program; not much were planned out.  Group of VIP guests were tagged along with guide to go around the fair, but eventually settled down where the foods were at.

- Even though art galleries pay for the fair fees, it is whole different story when it comes to asking for help to hang up the artworks... So apparently, there were few art gallery owners/directors banging on the wall with hammers, in order to hang up the paintings themselves.

Okay, all above doesn't look too good.  But of course our team goes through Seoul as well, where the domestic art market is still strong, like each household has painting on their walls.  Which sounds great indeed.  As much as art is becoming a term of investment nowadays, it is very nice to know that some market are strong simply because people actually enjoys artworks.

Here are some pages from Catalog; with lots of fantastic artworks.  If you're interested in going through the catalog, it will be available for viewing in our gallery.

This is another painting from our D'peak brochure from the art fair. Which attracted most attentions.  Seems like this sort of paintings were their cup of tea.

If you have noticed during "The Bridges of Nature" exhibition, we had few books about the artist; I Nyoman Sujana Kenyem.

One is his biography and another is catalog from his previous exhibition in Indonesia.

These publications are now available for purchase in the gallery.  Of course they will be both available for you to flick through the pages at our upcoming opening reception, but if you're interested in purchasing please let us know.
